1000 cc Abarth version of the Fiat 850 "SPIDER"???
« on: October 13, 2003, 05:06:22 pm »
Hi, can someone answer these questions:

I wondered if there has ever been a Abarth version of the Fiat 850 "SPIDER" delivered from the abarth factory with a 1000cc engine?
Or has there never been an Abarth version of the 850 spider??
Or were just some Fiat 850 spiders later on fitted with engines taken from 1000TC's or 1000OT Sedans or Coupes or A112's by their new owners???

There is a Fiat Spider for sale here in The Netherlands. The owner says it's an 982 cc original Abarth spider????? Any thought's??? Probably a 850 spider with 58hp A112 engine???

Hello,
I don't know if this post is still active.
I've got a 1968 Fiat 850 Spider fitted with a Abarth 1000 engine (in Factory). The hart top is permanent.
There are also specific seats for pilote and co-pilote.
I have pics of you want, and I am also looking for information on this car (owned since a year now).
I am in Paris, and my email is cda@softcomputing.com

Yes,  I too can confirm that such a car was built, although not many.

The only difference is that the 1000OT engines were based on an 843 block, with a 74mm crank.   The OTR engine was also 982cc and based on the 843 block.

The TCR engines however were based on 600 based blocks.

If anyone is looking for replacement parts for the 982cc based motors, please make a visit to my website www.scuderiatopolino.com

Keep those Abarths going.

Re: Old posts on Abarth 1000OT spyder.  I have a heavily molested one that needs help..It has a front radiator but no piping etc.  I would appreciate any information, photos etc.  This one is a 1967, I think that  it was only built  in '67.  were there any later years built?  Any info wouldf be greatly appreciated.

Hi all

does anyone have photos of an original Abarth 850 spider

Someone just called me about   one and I need to know how to tell a real one from a standard 850 witj Abarth badges,

this is a 1967 with covered headlights

Do the 850 abarths all have bigger motors ?

is there an Abarth  tag on them ?

or any record of serial numbers ?

thanks

Dave

Fiat 850 843cc type blocks were used, not 600 series blocks. There were two types of 843 blocks available; early type with large round bulge on the exhaust side of the block (also used in some Fiat 850 Special & Seat 850, these cars used a normal spin-on oil filter fitted here) and later type without this round boss. Both were stamped "202".

Guy, you may be confusing this early type 843 block with the Series 1 600 block, because they both have a similar round side bulge in that area of the block?

They were the covered-headlight type, but used only European-style front end (with turn-signal lamps in body, not under bumper). The OT1000 Spider had the larger engine (982cc), basically an 843cc engine with 74mm crankshaft. The Fiat 850-based OT1000 did not have the metal Abarth ID tag like on the 600-based cars. Not many records were kept, but some chassis #'s have been recorded, you would need to ask John de Boer iicar@earthlink.net .

If you have photos of your car, I may also be able to help.

Cheers,

I saw one for sale in LA, on Craig's list, but it's a replica with a 1050 installed. It is a covered head light car though. It looks very nice.
What can I test for you?
