On the RM Auctions site, there is a 1960 850 Allemano Coupe.  This will be at their auction held during the Amelia Island Concours,  March 2010.  23 photos here.

I have never been to this show, perhaps I can go this year.

Pretty car!  Anybody want to guess what the auction result will be?  I will start by guessing $72K USD.

Evan,
Actually I would say half of that,$36K would be a very good price. The car looks fantasic (!!) but I have seen 2 sell over the last few years for $12K and $15K.It is a steel bodied Fiat 600 with some Abarth touches.I vaguely recall they were also sold as Cisitalia in South America.

Hi Grant,

This car has a lot of "eyeball".  I'm thinking that with the help of the RM auction crew aned the Amelia Island venue, it could bring some extra $.  Didn't a relatively humble 750 berlina recently bring $60K plus in Florida?

Lets see how the Allemano goes.....sure is well presented.

Evannice, I think your estimate may be close.  R-M auctions have added the description and some history of the car to the photos on this web page.  They estimate the value between $60,000 and $70,000.

I knew I had never seen one but did not know these cars were so rare, they say less than 200 were built and less than 30 still exist.

Hi Scooperman,

Interesting additional info, mostly that the correct original engine is gone.  That's gonna knock the price down some!

Anything Abarth is getting very strong money these days, even in this economy.  I would not be suyrprised if it tops $ 80-85,000.  Rm has a knack of pulliong every penny out of their cars, and this Auction actracts a savvy group.

Result was $82,500.  I am surprised it went that high without the original engine, but it is very pretty.

There was quite a bit of interest shown in the car prior to the auction.  R-M started the bids low, price was quickly bid up, three bidders still involved at $60K, two bidders continued and hammer came down at $75K.  10% fee makes the buyer's total $82.5K.  Car is going to a good home, a serious collector.

I think that bidders who play at this level probably know Abarth history very well, and may not be too concerned that a very rare car had a motor upgrade. Especially if they intend this car for driving, not sitting in a museum.
