Greetings from Portugal
I'm thinking of buying a 1958 ABARTH ALLEMANO SPIDER... I have already found one but I have no idea what to look out for... could anyone please help me out? (The car is incomplete, it is missing it's front and rear bumpers, windshield and frame, seats, etc...) All help is welcomed.
Thank you very much.

if you are making a race car out of it then missing bumpers or windshields will not matter....
if you are trying to restore it I would think the parts would be hard to find ,
unless you found the racer who already took them off :)

Hello Dave,
Thanks for your reply to my post.... I intend on restoring it to its original specification... but I also want to race it.
Could you please give me some pointers on what to look out for? ex: Rust spots, how to identify the chassis and engine, etc...
Once again thank you very much and have a nice day.

I am far from an expert,
but it used a stock 600 chassis to begin with , so all the normal rust spots,
most important is where the suspension mounts too , if this is rusted the suspension could bend or collapse,
you can buy floorpans if they are rusty.
I guess its how much of the work you can do yourself ,
paying someone to restore any car is expensive

Rod, I have a 1959 750 Allemano Spider, mechanical parts are mostly from the FIAT 600, so they are more or less easy to get in Spain & Italy. Body parts are difficult, I'm currently struggling to find a windshield and frame!! But nothing beats the sound of my Allemanos door when closing, followed by the unique bark of that 750 little devil!!!

I have restored one 750 Zagato and I would say that the body is tough but the hardest things to find are the small trim pieces around the doors and inside the car. If the car is stripped down or missing parts it will be difficult to complete the restoration. It seems like most of the 600 based stuff is easy to find. As to rotting body panels well it's likely even a good car will have this problem, so yeah look for it but really just expect it.
You should have a great time!!
