gearbox clearance issues
« on: January 29, 2014, 05:00:58 pm »
Hi,

I recently mounted a 903GL engine in my 600T van with a 600D sedan gearbox.
The clutch I used is the original multipla clutch with the fingers and the original 600 flywheel.

The problem is, there is something smashing into something, guess in the bellhousing.
Any idea how to solve this, Had the engine in and out for 6 times, can't solve the mystery and can't find any metal flakes around the gearbox..

when the starter goes round, the -klunk- noise prevents the engine from starting. It's about 2 times per round. clutch in or out no difference.

I haven't done anything to the primary shaft of the gearbox, could that be the problem?
I've read somewhere that you need to cut 1 cm off the shaft, because the hole in the crank isn't deep enough?

Could it have anything to do with the rotation of the engine.
A 903cc from a 850 is rotating ccw. and a 600 cw.
just my thoughts

thanks for the replies!

- gearbox sits against the engine, so the shaft is no problem, thats nice
- I think engine turns cw just like the 600D engine original, cause its a 903GL engine out of a fiat 127.
- Can't push the car in gear at the moment, cause I can't get it uphill back in the garage by myself. Going to try that this evening with some help.
- the engine has run out of the car, so I know it's ok.
- Would be strange if the starter hits, cause it's a multipla starter with the obliquely cut muzzle (schuine snuit) and original pressure plate.
- going to check the ring gear and starter gear.

You need to cut about 10mm of the gearbox primary axle that goes in the engine.
This pushes the crackshaft and does not allow the engine to spin.
Had the same problem in the past and that was the solution

Great Chris! Cause I'm out of thing to try.

Strange thing: When I remove the spark plugs the sound is gone.
But the spark plug do not hit the pistons??

Going to cut 10mm and try again.

Thanks!
