'69 OT 1300/124 project.
« on: January 25, 2014, 09:45:07 pm »
I bought this car for 5 years and it has bin in storage since. Yesterday I decided it was time to restart my project again.
Last year I bought a grille from Guy, so that's where I will start.

The Coupé will be used on the road and on the track. I will mount no bumpers, so I've to find a way to mount the indicator lights.

Last Weekend I cut al extra hole in the front plate to get more air to the Radiator.

Made an Air duct;  For road use it will suit as a house for the License plate.
And for track use I will take out the plate en create a an extra air inlet.

Last week I did some work on the rear axles. I (test) placed a CV-drive but came on to the next problem.......
The bracket for the shock absorber was in the way, so that had to come off and needs to be replaced or move he complete shock inside the spring (like 500 and 600 models).

Hi Patrick
i am running a dual shock set up in my OT2000 coupe america. i have used the front shocks of a Fiat 124 sport and put them through the Fiat 850 rear coil spring, i still haven't worked out the other shocks in the normal 850 position yet. this will come when i get a round to making the rear axle.

keep up the great work

The brackets for the rear shock don't come back. Instead I'm placing the shock absorber inside the spring and will make similar reinforcements like Fred did on his OT 1600.

This are the shock's I'm going to use:

Fully adjustable Sachs RD45-2 racing shock's with an external oil/pressure reservoir.

In order to make the reinforcements I have to make sure the base is solid...
Due to a leaking rear window the last owner made some repairs over the years. There where a total of 9 "patches" welded next and over each other in order to keep the firewall in "tact" ????
in some places were where no patches the sheet metal was so thin you could put a screwdriver thru is easily.

In these cases there is only one solution..... Rip everything out that is thin or badly repaired.

First I had to make a wooden mold.
Second is beating the sheet metal into shape on the mold.
Welding the peace into its place and grinding the welds down to a smooth surface.

Now the area around the shock absorber is solid again.

Time to make the reinforcement brackets to hold the rear shocks.
I used 1.5 mm sheet metal to make the reinforcements and a 40 X 40 mm pipe for the shock absorber bracket.

The left side reinforcement is also in place..

Next are the rear-arms and conversion to disc brakes.
Only have to sort out the handbrake cables.

I made two shock absorber bracket's.
Next is test fitting the rear suspension en see if the big slick's clear de rear fenders.

Everything seems to fit nicely, just need to figure out what handbrake cables en brake line's to use ;)
