« on: February 11, 2013, 03:33:25 pm »
When my OT1600 is ready I'll start with a new project based on a Fiat 850.
Herewith some pics of my Fiat 850 and some articles about the OT1600 spider.

Great to hear that you'll like. I'll do my best to inspire myself and others!!

I saw at another topic that you've also had some 850's.
Herewith a picture of my OT1000, I race and slalom with.

Hi Fred ,
Are the 1600 Spyders all on sedan chassis, or the coupes are just the same?  the body is something you have sorted out how to do?

Hello Rubino,

The OT1600 are all based on the platform of a Fiat 850 sedan/ berlina, not the 850 coupé.
The 850 coupé is different than the sedan. The floor is different at the backseat!
The body is not the problem anymore, it's more the structure underneath the body, but I've got allready a lot info and a lot of ideas to make the structure.
Next week my other OT will go to the paintshop and the 850 for the OT spider will go into my workshop to chop it completely. I'll keep you informed and if you'll have some info about the spider let me know.

Groet,
Fred

Hi fred, I knew there was a difference but do you think the structure can be modified to suit? sedans are near imposible to find here, i got lucky with the red one I just got after a year of looking!

Hello Rubino,

I don't know if the measurements of the sedan are the same as the coupé, wheelbase etc. but you can change the floorpan. I'm going to change that to, because I want to sit as low as possible.
The 850 coupé-body is wider, but you can bring it back to the size of the sedan.

Do you want to build a spider too??
That would be great.

Groet,
Fred

Hi Fred
i'll keep a keen eye on the progress of this project.
I have a spare coupe body in bad shape but may be a good place to start.

Even better more OT1600 spiders, but making the 2000 prototype is also a good idea, Rubino!!
Well, making plans is always nice!!

Fred a dream would be to make a 2000 prototype, however the only one to look at or copy is in Japan, so the reality is a 1600 spider that you will do ,maybe acheivable when comparing projects for us. Only time will answer that for us! in the meantime the OT2000 America for Ras and my OT Mostra projects is enough.

Hi Rubino,

To start two project is not a good idea, but I'm going to build the spider.
The projects you and Ras are going to make are also great cars to do and the info is more easy to get, because more people had build these cars as a replica.
(do you know the backpanel of the OT2000 americana was made out of fiberglass?)

To find enough info about the OT2000 prototype will be difficult, it's a unique car.

I hope you will start soon with your 850-body and I will keep looking at the website of BM to see any progress!!
I'm now going to change the cars from workshop to the garage so the 850-OTspider body can cut in pieces!

Have a nice weekend.

Groet,
Fred

Check out video on YouTube
Search for:
Abarth 2000 sport prototipo

Enjoy some fantastic sounds and driver skill. This guy has very large balls to drive an expensive car on a road like that!

Cheers,
Toby

Hi Toby,
Nice video clip, it's not a prototipo 2000 that we are talking about, but the sounds of that one are fantastic!! after digging abit found that Mobil oil company had a contract with Abarth for not only advertising but promo' work with the car , they were expecting more to be made and had plans to use in future adverts, but they only made one that I can tell and it lives today in a private collection in Japan.

Fred to you Sir, have you chassis plans and a build stratagy done? the fibreglass body you will make, or have access to molds? I am an certified welder and make my own chassis if plans are available to purchase, not now but this really starting to get my attention! Rubino
