probleme is that sending this  kit to Belguim was  more than kit cost in Australia.

Yes Guy, the weight of the adaptor would be as much cost as the gearbox to send! just as same for Porsche box to us here.

Well we did the Vw box to dummy Fiat twincam motor on the weekend, looks good in this position, now to do gearshift so it is not backwards because the VW shift is not as direct as Fiat!

Hi Rubino. I have a Renault 16 box in my OT 1600 replica. Because of the gearchange mechanism being on the sid of the box I had to use a Hyundai Excel cable gearchange, which works quite well. We made a steel sandwich plate to adapt it to the Fiat engine. Interestingly, the Fiat and Renault clutches are just about identical.

Guy, I saw some photos of yours (I believe) that looked like part of 124 bellhousing welded to front of 901 transmission.How did that work? Chuck

fwiw, I just ordered from Subarugears a reversing gear for a Subaru 6 speed gearbox to fit in VW T3 Doka.
Todd is willing to make engine adapters, but there might be a minimum order to fit a 124 block to the Subaru transaxle.
I will hopefully be getting the gearbox in the next week, so I can post some dimensions once it is here.

I don't have the knowledge on Subaru gearboxes for strength or ratios, but think they are 30 years younger with parts available here and do know how easy they are to find in any condition !
So far have found these gearboxes used on Fiat 850's - Skoda130, VW type3 (4speed), Porsche 911 early and late(#901) and now Subaru! 
I look forward to your thoughts on subaru and any other gearboxes used!

Regarding FIAT motors and transaxles in general:

The 124 series run clockwise, so a reversing gear is required for a fwd transaxle to be used in a rear engine application in addition the differential needs flipping.  With minor grinding, this can be done in a Subaru transaxle.

Subarugears in Australia sells reversing ring and pinion gears.

The 600/850 series run counter-clockwise, so NO reversing gear is required for a front wheel drive transaxle (from a fwd engine that runs CW) used in a rear engine application. But, the ring & pinion will run on the back side (or coast side).

So with 600/850 blocks you can conceptually use any transaxle from a FWD CW engine: Renaults, Citroens, Alfas, Subarus etc., but they will all load the back side of the pinion gear.

Running on the coast side could be a problem, as pinion gears are not designed for that.  The solution, or trick, is to purchase a reversed ring and pinion, but NOT flip the differential.  That way the power goes through the proper side of the gearing.  At least that is the way I understand it.

Again, Subarugears sells reversed R&P's.

Subaru transmissions are strong like the Renault transaxles.  Most are designed for 300HP and at least 225ft-lb of torque.

The only missing link is the engine/transmission adapters..but these can be custom made.
