Abarth fan from Wales - new to forum
« on: August 28, 2012, 02:38:06 pm »
Hello, I'm an Abarth enthusiast and I live in North Wales, UK. My name is Meryn Lloyd-Thomas and I have been an Italian car & motorbike fan for several years. My stable consists of:
1999 Bimota sb6
1997 Moto Guzzi Centauro
1997 Laverda Ghost Legend (ex factory demo bike - ltd. ed. no.001)
1966 Fiat 2300s Coupe
1967 Fiat 2300n Coupe - being Abarthized.
1968 Fiat 2300n Coupe

I've just bought a 1970 Fiat 850 Special which is complete but in need of restoration. My intention is to build it as a near copy of the 1000 berlina, so there are going to be many questions and requests for parts being aimed at this forum. here's the first:
The engine is a standard 850 Special - i.e. 850cc, twin choke carb., 4 branch exhaust manifold, - I have a set of 67mm pistons (new - made by GPM Italy). These have "Dia cyl 67" stamped on the top of the piston. My question is this - can these pistons be fitted to the 850 engine? I assume the block will need re-boring - will it take a 67mm bore?
I hope this is not too basic a question - I'm new to the 850 engine so any info on tuning/modification would be most helpful.
I will try to post some photos of my vehicles as soon as I get some decent pics.
Many thanks for your help.
