rack and pinion steering for Fiat 124
« Reply #1 on: November 04, 2003, 10:00:45 am »
Good morning.
It is true thar he last 124/2000 SEAT were fitted with rack and pinion from new.
The steering rack was the one of Fiat 131 but with a different rack length. It was fitted to the backside of fromt crossmember. In fact it was a different cross member with welded fitting points already provided.
I do not thing it is very difficult to adapt this. What is important is 2 points:
-the height of the rack (where it is fixed)
-the length of the rack.

If these two pointa are not well sorted out you'll have adverse steering effects when the suspension is travelling up and down.

Two years ago, one could still buy one of these special front crossmembers from Seat, but now it is all finished.
I will contact if we find anything like that.
Best regards,
