1960 Brussels Jaques Coune
« on: May 20, 2007, 03:28:25 pm »
.If you have some info about his life you can send it here  This men will be happy with all info and photos :Stoffel Mulier
Jacques Coune started his coach building workshop in the mid 50s in Brussels
working mainly on expensive thoroughbreds like Jaguars, Aston Martins and
other valuable cars, but also normal production cars. He had a number of
agencies, one of them was for the Italian specialist Abarth in Belgium, the
first Abarth agent outside Italy, he also had the Iso agency. As a sideline
he started his real passion which was re-designing standard cars into
coupes, station wagons or cabriolets. One of the more known Coune creations
was the  Coune MGB Berlinette of which 56 were produced during 1963-1968
before British Leyland presented the MGB GT, but he also built a BMW 700
Estate and a Mercedes 220 Estate. His clients were mainly rich people
looking for individual transport and were quite happy to pay a premium for
that.
One off his dealers was the famous "garage Francorchamps" the belguim Ferrari men and spirit behind the belguim Yellow race cars

I am contributing to a "coune register" that keeps track of all activities that were deployed by Mr. Jacques Coune.
He was the first distributor of Abarth in the late fifties, early sixties and was located in Brussels, Belgium. These Abarth cars appeared on the Brussels Autosalon at the Heizel.
As such, I am looking for any pictures, stories, articles and or documents (e.g. invoices, commercial presentations) that can help in reconstructing those pioneering days of Mr. Jacques Coune and ABARTH.
The pictures attached are from an Autosalon catalogue from Brussels from 1959. At that time Jacques Coune was distributor for Belgium. the name of his company was NV/SA Centrale Pièces Auto

post your reply or you can call me at +32 477 24 88 88

kindest regards, Stoffel Mulier

Coune was established in the Avenue de la Couronne in Brussels. The buildings still exist today. I think his main activity was a body repair shop. I remember an old picture where several Ferrari's were serviced in his workshop.

Another importer or distributor of ABARTH parts was Ets. Neri and MALEVEZ in Antwerp. MALEVEZ had his shop in the Lange Leemstraat and the red "ABARTH" lettering remained on his window till he left somewhere in the late 80's.

I have an advertisement on Ets F Neri dans Virage Auto July 1967...
Qu' est-ce que un Lièvre?.... c'est un lapin passé chez  ABARTH

At that time, Coune was moved to rue Vanderkindere, Bruxelles 18...
