The below car is 4 sale. I wonder if anyone can (re)make it into the ultimate abarth-transporter...

Hello, I have just bought a late '60s Fiat 1100t (217) van, as it has rails for the chassis I will do just as you said, make a transporter from it. There is one here in Perth, Australia used for Racing many years ago by Cecchele Motors (Frank), he no longer races his Abarth 131's or Uno turbo or the Lancia Deltas 1 ...but keeps and uses his much loved 241 he converted to a transporter, he won't sell it I have tried! so I build my own. here is a picture of Frank's transporter and my van as purchased.

Hi Rubino,

Your 1100t van is rare enough as it stands there.  It would be a shame to cut the body to turn it into a car transporter.

You should look for a 1100t pickup! And convert the 1100t van into a service car, equiped with tools etc

If you were anywhere in Europe I would gladly swap one of my 1100t pickups with your van...  Australia is just a little bit to far...

But that's just my pennies worth.

Best regards,

Yves

Hi Rubino,

I'm in Belgium and my cars, vans and trucks are in Guy's Museum, adding to the total experience :-)

Have a nice day

Ives - Sir you are correct, the van is more scarce than I thought and after receiving it this week ,looked under it to find a clean rust free but completly different vehicle to a pick-up. This van has small pressed metal strengthning like a car and the pick-up has 2x Steel Rails running length long, the van would need a re-engineering to a rail chassis and place the cabin back on to work as a transporter, to much work to a vehicle not suited to the job and also, in such good condition bodywise. the van drives well and would be a shame to cut it up!.......maybe paint Red and make replica Abarth Corsa and Service van and tow a trailer behind with my Fiats on it instead of making a transporter from it!

Hi Rubino,

Glad that you have seen the ligth :-).

Wether the 1100t is a good vehicle to go trailering is a thing which remains to be seen...

I once saw a picture of a 1100t with a 600-racer in tow with a triangle, maybe a better solution?

Best regards,

Yves

Hi Yves,
You maybe correct again, the van has a towbar now ,but unsure of its mounting strengh, time is on my side to find answers to this and many more I have as the basic resto'/clean up is done. The 217 starts, runs, even has a working clackston horn!
Regards, Rubino
are you sure you won't sell me a pick-up?

Hi Rubino,

I have two 1100t pickups.  One from Italy and one from Germany (which at the moment only has an invoice and no car docs).

Both are in need of restauration, but they are actually good bases to start from.

I would sell you one if you insist.   Two is alsways more fun, but we actualy need only one for the Museum.

With the proceeds of the eventualy sold one I could start the rejuvenation of the remaining one.

You can pm me with an email-adress to continue this topic.

Best regards,

Yves
