Electric cooling fan
« on: January 11, 2007, 05:20:42 pm »
I have seen a few photos on the internet that show electric fans mounted to the rear of a stock 600 radiator.  They look like they are mounted tight up against the rad., and may have some of the shrouding cut away.  Does anyone know what fan this might be?  I have been thinking of using an X1/9 fan mounted on the front of the rad.

I seem to recall someone saying that you should mount the fan on the front of the rad. and blow towards the rear.  Does anyone know if this reverse airflow is needed?  Does it have someone to do with the "belly" pans being in place or not?

Can you still get heat to the cockpit with an electric fan in place?

Thanks,
Gil

My understanding is that most of the electric fans you see are from later Fiats. Theoretically it shouldn't matter on which side you put the fan, but you'll have to make sure the blades are curved in the right direction.  If it's blowing forward and you have the back side of the radiator sealed it should push hot air into the cabin. Also, you'll have to use the curved outflow tract so most of the flow that doesn't go for heating ends up facing rearward, I would think.  I've read that for reverse flow it's best to put a curved scoop under the car facing forward.

I read that to have a real heater you have to install a unit from an 850.  My family had a 600D when I was growing up, but we lived in the Los Angeles area, so a heater was never important and I don't remember how well it worked.

I have an electric fan in my rear radiator. The fan is placed in the engine side of the radiator. The blades are shaped like they are sucking air from te front of the car to the engine compartment. That way you can surely forget about having the cabin heated.

hallo al,for me its not good .You must our blow truth our sucking behind the radiator when you have the radiator on the rear off the car otherwise your hot air will stay in engine bay whit airflow .See in al documentetion and homologation from Abarth .The fit a small fan inside and after the radiator for sucking air i-out engine bay and blow it away under the car

They fit the fan in the place where the hot air goes into the cabin (with the normal air flow)? That means leaving the air flow normal and not revese it, right?

Can anyone tell me exactly which models of Fiat electric fans will fit onto the 600 radiator?

Thanks,
Gil
