fiat 600 question
« on: May 10, 2006, 09:15:45 pm »
Hi all, I recently purchased a 1956 fiat 600 convertible. I would like to install front disc brakes. I have seen some in pictures with this modification. Is there a kit I can purchase? If not, what parts will I need to get started? Thnx for reading, Brian.

Hi,

I tried to do this conversion with Fiat 850 breaks on my '64 SEAT 600. The steering pivot are different (smaller). I don't know, if SEAT and Fiat had the same system in those times, but in worst case you must change the whole steerin linkage. So I made two adaptor plates and put disc brakes from an A112. So, better check it before buying parts that you can't use.

regards,

Florian

Guy,

beg your pardon, but what do mean with chassis? Are there design differences of the chassis?

Thanks for the replies. Since Im in Canada there are not any places to track down all the parts I need. If anyone on here has all the necessary parts to pull this off I would be willing to pay $$$  as long as its fair to both of us. Any tips would be appreciated. Also, does anyone make replace ment conertible covers? Thanx, Brian

I used Fiat 850 spindles and Fiat 124 disk brakes in front. Mch better than the 850 because the brake caliper is a bit wider than the one from the 850 and you can use thiker brake pads. If you cannot find the 850 spindles you can always make a metal plate to adapt the brake calipers that you want.
I have heared of people using Fiat Uno brakes too. Maybe I will upgrade to Uno turbo aircooled brakes some day too.

If you need the desighn for the plate to attach the brake calipers, I think I have one somewere because for a wile I couldn't find 850 spindles too. Just contact me for help!
