A112 engine 58hp or 72hp
« on: January 23, 2006, 01:40:54 pm »
I recently found and bought an A112 Abarth engine after a long time searching for one. But how can you tell the diference if it is the 58hp or the 72hp??? I know that the latest models of 72hp had oil radiator, witch is something that my engnine does not have! Any other diferences anybody knows???

Also the water pump is broken and I need a new one. Is it the same in all A112 engines 903cc, 1050cc and Abarths??? I need one with high preasure because of the front mounted water radiator I want to install soon.

Hello Chris,
if in your engine is stamped A112 A5.000, this is not a HP-58 or HP-70 engine ! This A5-engine has a capacity of 902,576 ccm (65 x 68 mm) and a compression ratio of 9,0:1. This engine has a power of 42 hp / 5400 n/min. This engine has been placed in the A-112 models "Economica" and "Normal".

If you are looking for a real Abarth-A-112 engine, you have to look for a block with A112 A1.000 (HP-58) or A112 A2.000 (HP-70).

The A-112 or Fiat 127 waterpumps are always the same ones, there is no difference.  We do need in our race cars electric waterpumps. See www.isa-racing.de [nofollow] , page 221. Our clubfriend Ad van Koeveringe/NL (aneko.home@hetnet.nl) produces a perfect adapter from alloy to fit this pump to the A-112 engine. Ask him.

With best regards,

Klaus, yes the engine has A112 A5.000 on it. But I bought it with an Abarth head with the 32DMTR webber carburator on it. I thought it was a 58hp engine. So, in that case I bought a 45hp engine with Abarth head installed...What do you think is the hp of the engine now?Somewere around 50hp??? Any suggestions to gain more hp from that engine???

Thanks for info so far:)

Hello Chris,
your engine could have with an Abarth-head and the 32 carb nearly around 50 hp, that may be.  The problem is, that your engine has not the very fine Abarth-crank which you need for more than 8.000 n/min. For more power you can first take an Weber 40 DCOE or 40 DCNF, or if you can get it, take an Solex 40 CCI . Many race engines in the Coppa-Mille are fitted with this very simple but high effective SOLEX carburator. In which car do you install this engine ?

Hello Klaus,

The engine will be installed in my F600 replica. The car is for street use, not for racing, so I am not thinking of an engine that powerfull right now, I just need somthing around 50-70hp just for the car to be able to move around quicker than the oringinal engine. I am still looking for an Abarth A2 engine to install later on, but till then if there is any easy convertion to gain a little more hp from this engine the help would be gratefull!

What if I regrind the engine to higher ccm (965 to be exact)? Will I get more hp? And if I use another cam for 8000rpm??? Does anyone have the parts needed for this tuning

Chris,

Gaining 50cc would gain you only a few hp, but you could gain a noticeable amount by fitting higher compression pistons. I don't know if anyone makes those.

I gather Guy was saying the CRANKSHAFT is the key in the A1 and A2 engines, as it allows 8000 rpm. If you spun the A 5 engine that high (and the valves didn't float first) you would probably blow it up.
